Do UGG Boots Run Big or Small?
The crisp cold air of fall is here. Pumpkin spice lattes are brewing, leaves are falling, sweaters are being pulled from closets, and most importantly, boot season has arrived.
You know what that means—time to break out the UGGs.
UGG footwear is an essential item for your wardrobe. They’re the boots you can live in, whether it’s a quick trip to the mailbox, a night out on the town, or anything in between. If you’re considering buying your first pair of UGG boots for men or UGG boots for women, including the UGG Mini Bailey Button, or a new pair for the season, you’ll want to make sure you know the right size to get so your feet can have a comfortable space to cuddle during the coldest months of the year.
But do UGG boots run big? In short, it depends on the model of the UGG boots you buy.
Classic UGGs
If a shoe “runs big,” that means you will want to get a smaller size than you normally wear to get the perfect fit. If you would typically wear a women’s size 9, you may end up purchasing a women’s size 8 or 8.5, depending on how big the shoe size runs. On the contrary, if a shoe “runs small,” you’ll want to buy a bigger shoe size than you normally would.
Classic UGG boots (the ones you imagine when someone says UGGs) run big, so you’re going to want to buy fresh UGGs a half to a full size smaller than your typical size. This is because they’re made out of a sheepskin material, which is known to stretch out over time. You may try on a pair of fresh UGGs and think, “wow, these are way too snug,” or “these are the perfect fit ” Go with the first UGG boot.
You want the UGG boots to feel pretty snug at first because the more you wear them, the more the sheepskin boots will stretch and mold comfortably to your feet. If you buy them when they fit comfortably at first, they’ll end up being a loose fit after they stretch out.
If the Classic UGG is covered in another material, it will not stretch quite as much. It will still stretch over time but buying just a half-size smaller instead of a full size is probably a good bet.
Women’s UGG Slippers
UGGs’ Ansley and Dakota women’s slippers tend to run small—so you’ll want to buy them half to a full size bigger than you normally would. If you’re typically a women’s size seven, buying a size 7.5 or 8 is a solid choice for the UGG Coquette Slipper.
UGG Rain Boots
The sizing for the UGG rain boots tends to be true to size, and the rubber material tends not to stretch over time. They only come in full sizes, meaning they don’t offer a size 7.5. So, if you typically are half-size, they recommend sizing up. If you typically wear a 6.5, you should order a 7 for a comfortable fit.
How to Decide on Size
UGG has a plethora of different boot options, so deciding on which size to get will be dependent on which model you decide to go with.
Here are a few other important things to think about when deciding on your UGG size:
- Material – The most important question will be, what material are these boots made out of? Is this a material that will stretch or not? Not all of UGG’s boots are made of sheepskin. They have leather boots, rubber boots, and many other choices. Find out the material and whether or not it stretches.
- Use – Are these going to be your everyday “go-to” boots? Or your special occasion boots? If they’re everyday boots, they will stretch out faster, whereas if you are only wearing them every once in a while, they will stay true to their buying size for longer. This is something to keep in mind when considering whether to buy a half-size or a full-size smaller or larger. Go a full size if they’re going to be your everyday boots.
- Socks – When deciding on the size, you’ll want to keep in mind whether or not you’ll typically be wearing socks with the boots. If you will be wearing socks, a super-thin sock isn’t going to make much of a difference when it comes to sizing but if you plan on wearing thick wool socks then you’ll want to consider sizing up a little bit.
